Taiwanese Protest Taxes
In Taiwan, protesters were taking to the streets for a tax reform for the 3rd time in seven days with thousands of people gathering in Taipei.
An activist group called the Tax and Legal Reform League organized the protests. The group has been working on this issue for years, and the ‘yellow vest’ protests in France inspired it to try again.
The French protests stopped the government from raising a gas tax until 2020, and the government also increased minimum wages and other economic reforms. People in Sweden, Israel, and Belgium also held similar protests. In Taiwan, it is unclear if the protests will change anything.

Difficult words: gather (come together), league (an organized group), issue (problem), economic reform (a change to how money is controlled in a country).
